Basel Abdelmoneim

Basel Abdelmoneim

Senior Consultant

Basel Abdelmoneim is a payments and fintech consultant with over 25 years of international experience spanning more than 35 countries across Southeast Asia, the GCC, the wider Middle East, Africa and Central/Eastern Europe. His career includes senior roles with BGS Smartcard Systems, Network International, Financial Software & Systems and DXC Technology, together with banking and consulting assignments including Dunia Finance, Savantor and work as an external contractor to Mastercard.

His core experience combines consultative business development, market entry, strategic partnerships, product and commercial structuring, delivery, pricing, business cases, financial modeling and complex institutional deal cycles. His work spans the payments value chain, from turnkey payment solutions and ecosystems across issuing, acquiring and merchant acceptance infrastructure through processing, gateways and domestic schemes, to government payments and financial inclusion.

A core element of Basel's work is bringing partners, technologies and capabilities together, assessing technical, commercial, cultural and regulatory fit, to form a viable, market-ready proposition. His consulting path has also led him to several years of delivery roles on a Build-Operate-Transfer domestic payment scheme for a GCC federal ministry, including project management, pricing strategy, member bank onboarding and ongoing member bank management.

His international work includes opening new markets with coverage of large regions managed from a central hub using various distribution strategies. He participated in over 20 trade delegations at the invitation of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber - including three Federal Presidential missions - to Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Africa. He engaged with senior executives across government and financial institutions, introducing paradigm-shifting domestic payments to markets, often resulting in knowledge and technology transfer. He is accustomed to working directly in market - meeting stakeholders and assessing operating realities first-hand - an approach that informs his work in payments digitization, domestic schemes, microfinance initiatives and last-mile ecosystems.

Basel's techno-commercial background includes an International Executive MBA from IE Business School and a BSc in Computer Science from the American University in Cairo. He also holds a certificate in Blockchain Technologies: Business Innovation and Application from MIT Sloan School of Management and is currently completing Oxford University's AI in Financial Services: Foundations through Future Trends. He is a native English and German speaker, with working Arabic and some French.
